Oriol Romeu appears to be living his final days as a Barcelona player. The Catalan midfielder is back in the club’s squad after his loan spell at Girona came to an end.

However, the 33-year-old midfielder is not part of Hansi Flick’s plans for the new project at the club, and his departure is widely considered to be a foregone conclusion.

Sevilla interested in Romeu

In this context, Sevilla have emerged as one of the main contenders to secure his services, according to Fichajes.

The Andalusian club values his experience and tactical profile as a complementary piece to reinforce the midfield.

Sevilla officials believe Romeu’s arrival could bring balance and composure to a midfield that struggled with inconsistency last season.

The coaching staff appreciates his tactical discipline, work rate off the ball, and familiarity with the league. At 33 years of age, the player is still capable of delivering immediate performance and adapting quickly.

Romeu rejoined Barcelona two seasons ago after impressing in midfield at Girona. Although he was given opportunities with the Blaugrana, he ultimately failed to demonstrate the level required to compete for major trophies.

Last season, he returned to Montilivi on loan, where he had previously shown his best form but did not play as regularly as in the past.

Now back at Barcelona, he does not have a place in the team and both parties will hope to resolve his situation at the earliest with a contract termination seeming the likeliest outcome.

Several La Liga teams have inquired about his situation, but Sevilla are understood to have taken the most concrete steps so far. The player’s entourage is open to considering the proposal, particularly if it allows him to continue competing at a high level.
