Sevilla forward Isaac Romero has revealed the tenets of the game that his side focused on to demolish Barcelona at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, with a result that will live long in the Nervion memory.

The Andalusian giants went up by two in the first half, but at that stage, the feeling was perhaps that they should be further ahead. Romero admitted that he could have perhaps had more than the goal he did score.

“It’s every person’s dream, at home, in front of your fans and against a great rival, and to get the game the way we did and make everyone happy. I had a few in the first half, but anyway, I’m leaving with the fact that I scored one and with the three points today,” he told Cadena SER after the game.

‘The key was…’ – Isaac Romero

Los Nervionenses created a number of clear opening against Barcelona in the first half, and towards the end of the second, finished the game off with two late strikes. Romero was asked what they managed to do to knock Barcelona off balance.

“It’s what we’ve been working on. We knew Barca were pushing their line forward a lot in midfield, so we had to come out on the counterattack quickly.”

“The key was that we were focused the whole game and we knew the job each one had to do and we showed it, we didn’t have to leave time for them to forward with the ball,” Romero explained.

Problems for Hansi Flick to contend with

While Matias Almeyda looks as if he has inspired not only a strong collective unit out of Sevilla side lacking resources, they are carrying out his plan to perfection. Hansi Flick on the other hand said he was pleased with his side’s reaction in the second period, but admitted there were serious mistakes in the first. The German manager has plenty to mull over during in the international break, with a number of sides exploiting their high line.
