Sevilla are set to bank an estimated 1,199,375 euros from FIFA’s Club Benefits Programme after the World Cup involvement of Rubén Vargas, Djibril Sow and Orjan Nyland, Diario de Sevilla reports. The payout offers timely relief to the Nervión club’s summer budget.
Norway and Switzerland went out in the quarter-finals, losing to England and Argentina respectively. The scheme pays 9,595 euros per day for each selected player to their club of origin.
Despite Nyland’s contract expiring on 1 July, the entire compensation for the goalkeeper will be paid to Sevilla under FIFA rules for players who become free agents during the tournament. His displays for Norway have boosted his value, marking a final indirect service after three uneven seasons in Nervión.
Vargas’s strong tournament has reignited European interest, particularly from Premier League clubs. Sevilla’s sporting department would not view a sale unfavourably, with injuries having hampered his continuity and stalled the hoped-for leadership after Dodi Lukebakio’s move to SL Benfica last summer.
By contrast, Sow is seen as a fixture under Luis García Plaza after delivering his best midfield numbers last season. As Sevilla weigh reinvestment, the World Cup income provides welcome breathing space for the remainder of the window.
