Shakhtar Donetsk have renewed their interest in 18-year-old attacking midfielder Gabriel Mec, and are awaiting Grêmio’s valuation before making any new offer. According to GZH, the Brazilian received a proposal from the Ukrainians last year.
Another European club could enter the race soon, with Villarreal planning to send staff to watch the Grêmio academy product. Mec is on the scouting lists of several sides, including Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.
In September 2025, Shakhtar tabled a 15 million euro bid, which the player declined despite approval from the then board led by president Alberto Guerra.
Under new president Odorico Roman, Grêmio aim to raise the figure for any sale. With Luís Castro, Mec has started four matches in a row and has 857 senior minutes. He scored his first professional goal against Coritiba on 26 April, after only two outings and 35 minutes last year.
The 2026 campaign is viewed as decisive for setting his price, and at least one proposal may arrive in the next window, which runs from 20 July to 11 September.
Mec is content with his current run and he and the club will assess any offers. Grêmio need sales to ease finances, and defender Viery is also drawing overseas interest.
