The Namibian team delivered a resounding victory over Sao Tome and Principe (3-0) this Tuesday at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown, Botswana, during the eighth matchday of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Group H.
Peter Shalulile, forward for South African club Mamelodi Sundowns, was the hero of the match, netting all three goals in the 41st, 66th, and 71st minutes, sealing a spectacular win for Namibia. With this victory, Namibia climbs to 15 points, overtaking Liberia (11 points), who drew yesterday against Malawi (2-2), currently fourth in the group with 10 points. The Namibian side now eyes the second spot in the group and hopes to be among the four best runners-up out of the nine groups to earn a place in the African playoffs. The winner of that playoff will advance to the intercontinental playoff for a ticket to the World Cup finals. It's worth noting that the Carthage Eagles, leaders of Group H, have secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup finals after their 1-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea yesterday.
