Hearts beat Rangers 2-1 at Tynecastle Park, staying top of the Premiership's Championship group as Rangers drop to third.

In the 23rd minute, Dujon Sterling swept Rangers ahead from the centre of the box.

After the restart, Blair Spittal came on and Hearts raised the tempo. Jack Butland denied Cláudio Braga from close range early in the half.

The Jambos nearly levelled when Alexandros Kyziridis struck the left post, then Stephen Kingsley fired in left footed (54.).

Lawrence Shankland steered in the winner from the centre of the area (71.). Butland later tipped over a Spittal drive as Rangers chased.

Thelo Aasgaard then headed against the bar (77.), and seven minutes of second half stoppage time were indicated as Hearts held firm.

Hearts made 54 clearances to see it out. Rangers registered 13 attempts.

Next, Hearts visit Motherwell. Rangers go to Celtic.
