Manchester United are monitoring Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall and Fulham’s Antonee Robinson as potential left-back reinforcements this summer, with Luke Shaw currently the only senior option in that position at Old Trafford.

That is according to Sky Sports News journalists Danyal Khan, James Cole and Amar Mehta, who report United are continuing to track both targets as the club works to address a clear structural gap heading into a season that includes Champions League football.

Why Left-Back Is a Priority

Tyrell Malacia has left the club this summer, and Patrick Dorgu is expected to operate in a more attacking position rather than as a full-back under Michael Carrick. That leaves Shaw as the lone senior left-back, a position the club cannot carry into a heavier fixture schedule with any confidence given his injury history.

Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui can cover the role in an emergency, but Sky Sports makes clear that United intend to bring in a specialist. Shaw is also out of contract next summer, adding urgency to the longer-term planning.

As Sky Sports News first reported in March, Hall remains a player United have been tracking for several months. Newcastle signed the 21-year-old from Chelsea for £28m two years ago, and would be expected to demand a significant fee for a defender they consider a key asset.

Robinson the Pragmatic Alternative

Fulham’s Antonee Robinson has emerged as a secondary option. The USA international is widely expected to attract interest this summer, though Sky Sports notes that with a new head coach arriving at Craven Cottage, it remains to be seen whether Robinson would be allowed to leave the club.

Sky Sports analyst Callum Bishop makes the case that Robinson – statistically sharper at both ends of the pitch per 90 than Hall last season – could suit Carrick’s system more readily in the near term, particularly if Cunha operates as an inside forward off the left flank. Hall, though, fits the INEOS recruitment profile more cleanly: young, homegrown and with a higher ceiling.
