Patrick Bamford scored in Sheffield United’s 3-0 win over Birmingham, and Bramall Lane responded with a chant referencing Chris Wilder.
After the 32-year-old grabbed his third Blades goal since signing in mid-November, a crude anti-Wilder chant echoed around the ground. Before the match, Wilder told the BBC he would like to keep him, adding that Bamford wants to extend but agents will seek the best deal.
Bamford left Leeds in August and agreed a short-term deal in mid-November that runs only until the end of December. He had briefly trained with Coventry, and he scored 60 goals in 205 appearances for Leeds.
The chant nodded to last summer, when Bamford and Harry Gray led the same line outside Elland Road after Leeds won the Championship title. Sheffield United supporters have now adopted it with a sense of humour.
It marks a swift turnaround and reflects well on both that they have moved on. Leeds fans will surely be glad to see Bamford settled and scoring again after a spell in the wilderness.
