Sheffield United's Alex Matos could be available in the January window, and he would improve Charlton, Portsmouth and Luton.
Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder is gearing up for a huge January window, even if three successive wins has lifted the mood around Bramall Lane.
The boyhood Blades fan returned to the Blades for a third time in September, and he inherited a club in a mess after a disastrous start to the campaign under Ruben Selles.
Whilst it hasn’t been straightforward under Wilder, there have undoubtedly been signs of progress recently, but he has already acknowledged that the upcoming winter window is huge as he looks to add reinforcements to his squad.

Naturally, the focus for fans will be on incomings, and Sheffield United are sure to be active, but Wilder will also know that he needs to balance the squad.
Therefore, departures are inevitable too, and one player who could do with a move away - even if it’s only on loan - is Alex Matos.
The former Chelsea youngster joined the Blades in the summer under the management of Selles, and he did feature in Wilder’s first few games.
However, Matos has quickly fallen out of favour, and he has only made one substitute appearance since the start of October, which includes failing to make the squad on several occasions.
So, you would imagine Matos is open to moving, and here we look at THREE EFL clubs who should consider a move for the 21-year-old in the New Year...

After a positive start to the season, Nathan Jones’ Charlton have had a harsh reality check in recent weeks, having lost four games on the bounce.
A reason for that has been the small squad, with a few injuries disrupting Charlton, and those who are involved are getting pushed to the limit right now.
That means January is going to come at a good time for the Addicks, and Matos would be someone who adds a lot to the squad with his energy and ability to carry the ball. Plus, he offers more attacking threat from midfield, which would be very welcome for a Charlton side that sometimes look predictable.
Jones has shown over the years that he can develop players, and this is a critical point in Matos’ career where he needs to be playing regularly and showing what he can do. So, Charlton might be the ideal destination, and he will certainly help the Londoners, even if he faces a battle to earn a regular place in the 11.

Portsmouth are in the relegation zone right now, so there’s going to be a clamour for new signings in January to strengthen the squad, and the reality is that the first 18 games have shown that they are lacking in key areas.
A return of 15 goals is not good enough, so John Mousinho is going to look to improve in the final third, with a new striker likely to be the priority for the south coast outfit, as only Adrian Segecic has scored more than twice in the league this season.
But, Pompey’s woes are not entirely down to the players in attack, and they also need more drive and quality from the middle of the park.
Matos’ skill-set means he would bring that ability to carry the ball and get around the pitch, which could get more out of those Pompey players further up the pitch.

If Matos wants to be guaranteed first-team football, he may have to consider dropping to League One, and you could be sure that there will be plenty of interest from the third tier if he is available.
One club who could benefit from Matos is Luton, and the chance to join the Hatters under Jack Wilshere will surely appeal as the ex-Arsenal man has enjoyed a positive start in the dugout at Kenilworth Road.
The upcoming window will be Wilshere’s first, and whilst he has done well, he will want to really put his mark on the team by bringing in his own players, and with his engine room currently limited to the likes of Liam Walsh and George Saville - whilst they are fine players for League One - Matos could bring some more youthfulness.
Given his age, energy and the fact he is comfortable in possession, Matos would fit the bill for what Wilshere wants from his midfield, and he could quickly become an important figure for Luton as they look to bounce back to the Championship at the first attempt.
