Sheffield United owner Steve Rosen has revealed his thoughts on seeing how Dejphon Chansiri invested vast amounts of money into Sheffield Wednesday to then be hated by supporters.

As a new owner himself, that concerned Steve Rosen after his takeover at Bramall Lane. His ownership of Sheffield United began on 23 December 2024, when his COH Sports consortium completed its takeover of the Blades alongside Helmy Eltoukhy.

Since then, Rosen's tenure has been far more complicated than initially expected. The new owners arrived promising long-term Premier League football, but financial and legal issues surrounding the takeover have since created considerable uncertainty.

The 2026 summer has brought particular scrutiny, with the ownership structure and a dispute over money owed to former owner Prince Abdullah now under examination.

Speaking publicly for the first time since the window closed, Rosen disclosed details on 'Blades in America' recently. The interview was put out on Sheffield United's YouTube channel.

He revealed his thoughts on when he initially took over at Bramall Lane, stating: "There's no attention span issue in Sheffield. It's Sheffield United. On the other side of town, it's Sheffield Wednesday. But Sheffield United, all day, in the pub, with their family, with their children, grandparents. It's just all the things.

"When I think about what we walked into, we walked into Wembley and we lost. And then the guy across town who owned the club, this is like the first thing I'm seeing, right? He invested 200 million pounds, lost it all.

"And like the first thing I see when I'm driving into Sheffield is a most wanted sign for that guy. And I'm like, 'Oh gosh, he just lost 200 million pounds and he's he's hated'.

"And yeah, they want to, you know. I don't know what they are screaming about him. So these are the two things I walk into. We lost at Wembley and the guy across town who put 200 million pounds in is being run out. You know, talked about terribly poorly.

"So that was stressful. So, I don't know if that answers your question, but I think, from the US perspective, we have a lot going on here. And that's maybe a good thing or a bad thing.

"In Sheffield, they're not walking around looking at their iPhones either all the time. They're social, they're gathering, they're in the pubs, they're in town — the centre of town, they're living. They're living.

"And the thing that gives them the most joy and agony is Sheffield United."

There is an interesting comparison to be made with Chansiri’s ownership of Sheffield Wednesday, with the two clubs famously sitting across town from one another, as stated by Rosen.

Even amid the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Rosen’s ownership, it is difficult not to argue that his tenure looks considerably better when compared with Chansiri’s disastrous spell at Hillsborough. Chansiri invested vast sums into Wednesday, but financial problems, unpaid wages, transfer restrictions and ultimately administration culminated in the club’s relegation.

Rosen’s tenure is certainly not without serious concerns, particularly given the current legal dispute, but the comparison with Wednesday provides important context. Sheffield United fans should arguably be grateful for their current state, even if there are question marks due to recent events.

COH Sports are involved in a £100 million dispute involving Sheffield United, which is just one thing overshadowing business at Bramall Lane. However, it is not the only off-field concern, with points deductions mentioned in relation to COH Sports earlier this summer as well.

Prince Abdullah also believes there is money owed to him from Sheffield United's current ownership group, with their former owner threatening legal action. Since then, a winding up petition has hit Sheffield United.

A £35 million payment is overdue to Prince Abdullah from COH Sports. Now, it's certainly a concern for Sheffield United fans that Prince Abdullah is pushing for this to be resolved when other legal action is also threatening the club via Tom Page over Rosen and Eltoukhy's initial acquisition of the club.

The threat of a points deduction has not completely disappeared for Sheffield United, either. That said, a points deduction at Bramall Lane does not appear that likely currently. However, the club have been hamstrung by these issues, given the sales in attack to Andre Brooks, Gus Hamer, and Callum O'Hare and with very little reinvested back into the playing squad.
