News of the Blades' interest in the versatile midfielder emerged via the Sheffield Star, who believe Chris Wilder is eyeing a move for his former player, whom he worked with at Watford.

He also played a decent part in the Foxes' promotion back to the Premier League in 2023/24, but has often struggled for game time this term and a January exit could potentially be on the horizon for him this month back to the second tier to another promotion hopeful in Sheffield United.

Ollie Arblaster is out for the remainder of the season with a serious knee injury and Vini Souza has spent time out recently with a hamstring problem. With their current lack of midfield depth in mind, Wilder is keen to have more experience in this area, and Choudhury could fit the bill for his side as a previous promotion winner.

Football Insider reported last week that Wilder's men were in advanced talks with Leicester regarding a deal to sign the 27-year-old on loan this month.

However, it was believed a move may depend on the business that Leicester do during the January window, and with new owners, United are seemingly ready to move quickly in January.

Leicester are reportedly willing to sanction a departure for Choudhury, who has made just four Premier League appearances this season, while the player in question is also said to be open to leaving the East Midlands in search of regular game time.

Now, Tom Collomosse of The Daily Mail is reporting via his X account that Choudhury is set to join Sheffield United this week, which would free up space for another right-back to join the Foxes, with Woyo Coulibaly of Parma highly regarded.

Hamza Choudhury is one of many required signings at Sheffield United

Sheffield United should be looking to bring in a few signings if they can this January as they don’t have a very deep squad, especially compared to their promotion rivals. In particular, the Blades need more depth in midfield.

Wilder may still be keen to give Sydie Peck a real opportunity to shine, but more experience is definitely needed, and someone like Choudhury could be ideal. He can operate as a box-to-box midfielder, a defensive midfield destroyer, or at right-back, which makes him the ideal profile for a thin squad in terms of numbers.

Because the player isn't winning much game time either, this may be the perfect opportunity for United to step in and give him the football he is in search of as well. Choudhury also brings plenty to the table in terms of his experience and leadership in the dressing room as well.
