Chris Wilder has revealed that three players will be back for next Monday's crunch clash at Bramall Lane
Sheffield United have received a big boost ahead of next Monday's table-topping clash with Leeds United, as Gustavo Hamer, Tom Cannon and Kieffer Moore are all set to return from injury to play a part.
The Blades were victorious away at Luton Town on Saturday, extending their current winning run to four games and subsequently returning to the top of the Championship table.
Leeds United will have the chance to regain top spot when they host fellow promotion-challenging Sunderland at Elland Road on Monday but, no matter the result of that match, Sheffield United and Leeds will occupy the top two ahead of their battle a week later.
Therefore, Chris Wilder will be relieved at the return of a key trio, as they aim to right the wrongs from their 2-0 defeat against the Whites at Elland Road in October.
Sheffield United built a five-point barrier to third-placed Burnley on Saturday after Scott Parker's Clarets were only able to manage a point away at Lancashire rivals Preston North End.
They'll be looking to at least maintain, if not build on, that gap when they host rivals Leeds United on Monday, and Chris Wilder's side will be boosted by the returns of Gustavo Hamer, Tom Cannon and Kieffer Moore ahead of the game.
Hamer and Cannon's injury layoffs will be short-lived, having only missed one game. Moore, however, has been absent since their defeat at Sunderland on New Year's Day.
The Sheffield Star reported that Wilder said: "All three will be available for next week. I was never in the mindframe of risking Gus today because of fatigue in his hamstring and with Tom we just didn't have much time.
"If the game was 48 hours later and we were playing Monday or Tuesday then he'd have been fit but we made a decision on that.
"Kieffer's had a week of work, we could have put him on the bench and had him involved but we felt there was more benefit for him to have a week's full training and then he's got another eight days in the lead up to the Leeds United game."
The returns of Hamer, Cannon and Moore will provide added firepower in the attacking areas ahead of one of the most important games of the season.
Both Leeds and Sheffield United are among the best when it comes to limiting chances for their opponents, so having players who provide a creative edge available to them is key to unlocking either defence.
With Leeds United currently operating at close to full strength, they'll be hopeful that they can leave Bramall Lane with at least a point, but the return of Hamer especially, alongside Cannon and Moore - two perennial goalscorers in the second tier - will give the advantage back to the home side next weekend.
Gustavo Hamer has already surpassed his combined league goals and assists numbers from last season's Premier League, and is well on his way to matching his numbers from his last season in the Championship with Coventry City.
Sheffield United fans will be hopeful that he can make an impact in next week's seismic clash with Leeds United.
