The Blades appear to be scouting around in Scotland once again for the next potential breakout star.

Braid, who is 16 years of age, has impressed in Partick Thistle’s youth academy this season. Despite not yet making his debut for the first-team, who sit in the second tier of Scottish football, the forward is thought to be one for the future in Scotland.

Of course, United signed Ryan Oné from Hamilton Academical back in September 2023, and since then, the powerful and athletic forward has been a standout player at both under-18’s and under-21’s level. His performances during the Blades’ youth academy has since seen him earn appearances in the Championship off the bench, in which he’s taken full advantage of.

Oné came off the bench against Bristol City to grab the late equaliser at Ashton Gate before United went on to claim a last-minute winner. The 18-year-old Scotsman also had a positive sub appearance away at Luton Town last month.

With the manner that One has developed in his first couple of years with United, a move to South Yorkshire may well be appealing to Braid. The teenager can join up with the under-18’s while he takes time to bed in, and then a move up to the Sheffield United development team would be on the cards.

Not only is the move appealing because of the potential to play Premier League football, over the last five years alone, the Blades have produced and developed a long line of forwards such as: Iliman Ndiaye, Will Lankshear, Will Osula and Daniel Jebbison – all of which have either made first-team appearances for the club in some capacity, and/or eventually made the move to Premier League teams.

A long-time member of the training staff and former Blades striker Jack Lester should quite rightly get a lot of the credit because he’s proven to be a great development coach with strikers for United. And Lester could have another youngster to tutor in the next coming months in Braid.

With other promising forwards like Ryan Oné, Louie Marsh and Jevan Beattie still on the books at S2, adding another in the form of Braid certainly won’t hurt.
