WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blades this evening.
The 20-year-old is a product of the Manchester United academy system. She made her debut against Sheffield United in a Women’s League Cup fixture at the Leigh Sports Village in December 2022. Since making her maiden appearance for The Red Devils, Aherne has spent time out on loan at Burnley and Everton to aid her development.
With Aherne far from assured regular football at Manchester United this season, the player has been allowed to go and get game time in the Barclays Women’s Championship with Sheffield United.
After adding Aherne to his squad, Sheffield United head coach Ash Thompson said “We’ve had to bide our time with Alyssa but she’s been someone we’ve been really keen to bring in and we’re really pleased to have got her signing over the line.
“She fills another key role for us as a versatile forward and she has plenty of talent to make an impact in the attacking areas of the team.”
Aherne is Sheffield United’s eighth signing of the summer transfer window.
