FLW's Sheffield United fan pundit has given his verdict on a possible move for Harry Amass

Sheffield United are preparing for a busy summer ahead after a disappointing campaign.

The Blades finished 13th in the Championship table, 13 points adrift of the play-offs under Chris Wilder.

The Yorkshire outfit had earned their place in the play-off final only 12 months ago, but the defeat to Sunderland ended their hopes of promotion.

Supporters were hoping for another promotion push this year, but a difficult start to the campaign meant they never really got going.

Wilder returned as head coach in September, just months after his exit, but he could only steer the team towards mid-table.

The club will be keen to bounce back next season, and a busy summer of transfer activity could follow as a result.

With speculation surrounding Harrison Burrows’ position at the club, we asked FLW’s Sheffield United fan pundit Jimmy, from Blades Ramble, about a potential move for Manchester United youngster Harry Amass.

He claimed that it wouldn’t be a controversial move at all, despite his past with Sheffield Wednesday, and that he would be open to the defender joining the team if Burrows left.

“I don’t think it’s controversial at all,” Jimmy told Football League World.

“I think he’s a good player, and we’re always interested in good players.

“I think it would be a really sensible shout, should Harrison Burrows leave.

“I think he’s competitive then with Sam McCallum for a starting spot.

“It sometimes makes it sweeter that they played for Sheffield Wednesday and now they want to come and play for Sheffield United.

“We would argue that it is a big step up for the player.

“And, as I say, if he’s a good player then we’re always interested, no matter who they played for in the past.”

Amass spent the first half of last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, where he impressed for the struggling team.

The teenager made 21 appearances in Henrik Pedersen’s side before being recalled by the Red Devils midway through the campaign.

This led to him moving to Norwich City on loan, but injuries hampered his availability and he played just one time for the Canaries.

Another loan is likely this summer, with Michael Carrick now in charge at Old Trafford, which could open the door for Sheffield United, if Burrows leaves.

It has been exclusively revealed by FLW that West Ham are keen on the full-back following their relegation to the Championship.

The defender made the move to Bramall Lane in the 2024 summer transfer window, and has been a standout performer under Wilder.

Burrows contributed five goals and four assists from 44 appearances in the league this season, but it wasn’t enough to help the team in their bid to fight for a top six position.

The 24-year-old has a contract with Sheffield United until June 2028 after signing from Peterborough United in a deal worth £3 million.

It remains to be seen what kind of fee it would take to convince the Yorkshire outfit to cash in on the player this summer.

Harry Amass could be an ideal solution to Harrison Burrows exit

While Sheffield United will surely be keen to keep Burrows, the allure of a club the size of West Ham could be tempting.

It would be a lateral move with the Hammers now in the Championship, but they will be heavy favourites to earn automatic promotion next season.

And it has been reported that Sheffield United could need to sell players in order to sort out their financial standing, with the club no longer receiving parachute payments.

So if Burrows is sold, then Amass could be a very smart solution as he would provide the same kind of attacking width from left-back at a reasonable cost, even his Sheffield Wednesday background doesn’t prove any kind of a stumbling block.
