The Brazilian is one of a number of players that the Blades are looking to sell this summer.
Vinicius Souza has spoken about his Sheffield United future amid claims that the club are looking to sell him this summer.
It'd be hard for many of the United playing staff to complain about being transfer listed this summer, given the abhorrent season that the club has just gone through.
Many people predicted that they would go down and finish last before the season started, because of the state of their squad after selling two of their best players, Iliman Ndiaye and Sander Berge, and those people were proved right.
It was record-breaking in all the ways that you wouldn't want it to be. They conceded more goals than any team in Premier League history in a single season, and they weren't too far from matching Derby County's record for the lowest points tally in league history.
A club-wide overhaul is necessary to get them back on track, and one of the benefits of their relegation to the Championship is that they now have the freedom to do that.
There is the potential for new ownership as well, with a US-based consortium being reported as the ones who are looking to take over at Bramall Lane. Even though nothing is done yet, they seem to have already influenced some of the club's transfer policy.
Transfers into the club this summer are expected to mainly consist of free agents and loans, and player sales are going to be essential if they want to spend beyond their current means.
Souza, 25, who has been named as one of the people that the Blades are looking to sell, has opened up on what's to come for him.
The midfielder has said that he expects to return to Bramall Lane, following a summer break which has seen him return home to Rio de Janeiro.
He said to Brazilian outlet ge, via the Sheffield Star: "I came back for vacation and I wanted to disconnect completely. I talked to my father and said that I wanted to relax completely for the first week. I don't know anything.
"I don't know what's going to happen. I'm still [at] Sheffield. I have a date to return to Sheffield. I just want to be with my children and enjoy the rest of the vacation because the next season is definitely going to be tough."
In terms of bright points from last season, there weren't plenty for Blades fans to point at. The South American midfielder was one of the decent players in Chris Wilder's squad last time out, and he would be a valuable asset in their new division.
The same can be said for Anel Ahmedhodzic, who has also been reported to be on the chopping block.
But United are rightly looking at the bigger picture here.
They ultimately know that the squad of players that they went down with isn't going to be enough to compete in the Premier League if they do get back there, and they may not even get to that point.
A complete change in direction is necessary, and they may as well try and get what they can from players like Souza before they start to really drop in value.
