Sheffield United are set for a busy summer, whether they win promotion back to the Premier League or not.

Of course, the only focus for Chris Wilder and the players is finishing the job as they battle Leeds United and Burnley for the two automatic promotion places.

However, the recruitment team at Bramall Lane have to continuously look ahead, and they’re sure to be drawing up a list of transfer targets for whichever division the Blades are in.

Sheffield United target Norwich City’s Borja Sainz

And, according to journalist Alan Nixon, Norwich City’s Borja Sainz is a player that the Yorkshire outfit will try to sign no matter what league they’re in.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a fine individual campaign, and whilst he hasn’t been as prolific in the second half of the season, he is the top scorer in the Championship.

With previous reports claiming Sheffield United could offer in excess of £10m for the player, and Capology estimating he earns around £15,000 a week, it’s fair to say that he should be a realistic option.

Here we look at TWO reasons why the Blades will be looking to bring him in…

Goals and assists

We’ll start with the obvious one - Sainz makes a difference in the final third.

As mentioned, he has scored 17 goals, which is an outstanding return for a wide player, and Sainz has scored all different types of goals. He is capable of shooting from range, whilst his movement ensures he gets in position to score tap-ins as well.

To have 17 goals and four assists after 35 games for a mid-table side shows Sainz is a very good player, and he is ready to make the step up.

Sheffield United aren’t exactly struggling for goals, but their 56 from 40 games isn’t exceptional, and it’s significantly fewer than the 79 Leeds have managed.

So, bringing in attacking reinforcements is likely to be a priority, and Sainz would provide Wilder’s side with another goal threat.

Pace and a direct style

Sainz is also an exciting player to watch due to his pace and direct approach.

When the Spaniard gets the ball, his first thought is to attack the opposition, with his pace and dribbling ability making him difficult to stop.

He is also a willing runner behind, which will give the Blades another attacking dimension, as he will stretch the game and open up space for his teammates.

You could argue Ben Brereton Diaz boasts similar qualities, but he lacks the explosiveness of Sainz, and whilst Jesurun Rak-Sakyi has pace, he is at his best when the ball is at his feet. Plus, he is only on loan from Crystal Palace.
