The Owls could lose the Swede this summer after previous interest in his services

Sheffield Wednesday are now very much preparing for life in League One next season, with the hope that American investor, David Storch, and his consortium, Arise Capital LLC, can complete a takeover within the next week or so.

Indeed, Storch has made his intentions clear to complete his purchase of the currently cash-strapped Owls by May 1st at the latest, which comes a day before the final game of the Championship campaign against West Bromwich Albion at a packed out Hillsborough.

As a result of the expected developments, the famous stadium is set for a party atmosphere and a mood which has completely bypassed Wednesdayites for the last 12 months, with the club in an extremely precarious financial situation.

It has been well-documented that a chain of events within the final weeks and months of Dejphon Chansiri's time as Wednesday chairman saw the club on the brink, before they were placed into administration in October, meaning the somewhat impossible task of maintaining their Championship status was made even harder for Henrik Pedersen and his threadbare squad by a mandatory 12-point deduction, before they were docked six more in December for further financial breaches.

As a result of many factors, Wednesday are still on minus points with two games to go, although they will hope to reach the positive mark in their final encounters against Oxford United and the Baggies after a recent improvement in terms of results and performance levels.

It, of course, remains to be seen what occurs regarding the takeover amid a fresh twist involving Chansiri which has come to light, as well as any future sanctions which may yet be rubber-stamped by the EFL heading into next season in the way of limitations when it comes to finances and recruitment.

And it has now come to light that next weekend's fixture against James Morrison's side could be a last in blue and white for popular midfielder, Svante Ingelsson.

That's because, according to a fresh update from the Sheffield Star, several Championship clubs are believed to be monitoring the Swedish midfielder's situation in the Steel City ahead of the upcoming transfer window, which opens in mid-June.

As a result of his performances from midfield, which includes one goal in the 2-2 draw with Hull City at Hillsborough on Boxing Day, the 27-year-old is expected to win several awards at the club's end-of-season ceremony.

And, despite being sidelined with a knee issue, Ingelsson's performances are also believed to have generated interest from divisional rivals, Stoke City, who have endured a mixed first full season under Mark Robins' management.

Having signed from Hansa Rostock in the summer of 2024, Ingelsson is coming to the end of his two-year contract in S6, although it has been claimed that the club had the option to trigger a one-year extension clause.

After the club rejected offers from Millwall and Portsmouth for the midfielder in January, it is also stated that Preston North End and West Brom are admirers of Ingelsson at this moment in time, whilst Sheffield United boss, Chris Wilder, is reportedly known to have taken a liking to his performances, albeit there is no suggestion of a controversial cross-city switch.

At present, all eyes are on Storch's pending takeover situation, with the aforementioned report also claiming there is some time left for the Owls to resolve Ingelsson's situation, regardless of whether he stays or exits Hillsborough.

It would come as a blow for Pedersen to lose a player of the Swede's calibre, as he has the potential to be a star performer yet again in the third tier at the heart of midfield.

However, given the club's financial state, even if a takeover is agreed, there are so many aspects of the club which still need to be worked on for some time, so an offer may come in that is simply too good to turn down.
