The Owls had a miserable 2025/26 campaign thanks to a hefty 18-point deduction, which saw them suffer the earliest relegation in EFL history back in February.

However, the season ended on a high for Wednesdayites, as American businessman David Storch completed a takeover of the club ahead of their final Championship game against West Brom, finally lifting them out of administration.

As for Huddersfield, next season will mark their third consecutive year in League One, after they failed to make the play-offs, following a poor end to their respective campaign.

Now, both of the Yorkshire-based sides are set to battle it out towards the summit of the League One table next season, and are reportedly already battling in the transfer market too.

One young striker who caught the eye in League One last season was Leeds United's Harry Gray, who spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Rotherham United.

The teenager was a bright spark in a Rotherham side which slumped to a disappointing relegation, and thanks to his performances, he could now be set for a second shot at the third tier.

on Sunday morning, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield are leading the race to sign Gray, who's been given the green light to head out on loan again by Leeds.

The Terriers are keen on bringing the 17-year-old to the Accu Stadium, but reportedly face competition from county rivals Sheffield Wednesday to sign the highly-rated striker.

According to Nixon, fellow League One sides Wigan Athletic and Barnsley have also registered interest in taking Gray on loan, but their 'bigger' rivals are said to be more likely to secure a deal.

It's shaping up to be an enthralling League One campaign, with plenty of clubs expected to be in the mix at the top end of the table, such as Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield.

However, when it comes to winning the race for Gray's signature, Wednesday may just hold the upper hand over their divisional rivals for several reasons.

The prospect of regular first-team football could be better at Hillsborough, with the Terriers having already bolstered their forward line with the signing of Ashley Fletcher, while Bojan Radulovic and Joe Taylor also remain on the books, meaning competition is already fierce.

Gray could find a clearer pathway to consistent minutes with the Owls, which is likely to be a major consideration for both himself and parent club Leeds if he is looking to continue his development.

Despite their recent struggles, Sheffield Wednesday remain one of the biggest clubs in the division too, boasting an enormous fanbase, an impressive stadium and the prospect of mounting a promotion challenge.

For a young player looking to test himself in a high-pressure environment, Hillsborough could provide the ideal platform to continue his progress while gaining valuable experience at a massive club.

Whilst both clubs would represent good destinations, if Gray's priority is maximising his playing time while developing at one of the division's biggest clubs, the Owls may well be a better fit for the 17-year-old.
