Sheffield Wednesday: Bailey Cadamarteri takes step closer to Lincoln City move | OneFootball

The young forward is nearing a temporary switch to the Imps.

Bailey Cadamarteri is set to undergo a medical ahead of his loan move from Sheffield Wednesday to Lincoln City.

A deal that would see the 19-year-old join Lincoln on a season-long loan is not finalised yet, but, according to The Star's Joe Crann, the move is now closer to being done with a medical scheduled for the player.

Some more details in the deal need to be checked over and approved before it all goes ahead, but it looks increasingly likely that Cadamarteri will be with the Imps for the rest of the 2024/25 season.

He had previously been linked with other League One teams like Huddersfield Town, Stockport County, and Wrexham, as per Crann. Wrexham were, at one point, considered to be leading the race for Cadamarteri.

It had been reported by The Star that the two clubs were in talks over a loan move for the son of former Premier League forward Danny Cadamarteri. With a medical reportedly booked, there is hope that a deal can be made.

The LNER Stadium is believed to be a good fit for the teenager due to Lincoln manager Michael Skubala's attacking brand of football.

That same way of playing got the best out of another young forward - Luton Town's Joe Taylor - in the previous campaign. Taylor found the back of the net 10 times in 19 games during his loan tenure with City.

Wednesday boss Danny Rohl said prior to his side's loss to Leeds United that some players were likely to leave the club before Friday's deadline.

Touching on Cadamarteri specifically, he said, via The Star: "We know the strengths of Bailey and which kind of football is good for him to get a lot of situations where he can improve.

"For me the most important point for Bailey is that he gets game time and this means not just 10 minutes or 15 minutes, it means being a starter and delivering again and again. This will be helpful."

With the additions of Jamal Lowe and Ike Ugbo, Cadamarteri's chances of playing much in Wednesday's first team this season are slim. He has only featured in one of the five games that the Owls have played so far this season. That sole appearance came as a substitute against Hull City in the EFL Cup, where he played just over half an hour.

That level of minutes was never going to be enough for him to develop into the player that those at the club believe he can be, and a move away from Hillsborough, temporarily, makes all the sense in the world.

Not only that, it seems like they have picked a very good destination for him; somewhere with a track record of using loanees well.

Cadamarteri will face competition for a starting spot with the Imps. Ben House, Skubala's current favourite number nine, has scored twice in City's first three league games. The boss also has the likes of Freddie Draper, Jovon Makama, Jack Moylan and Robert Street to call upon too.

Despite this, he should have a good chance of being one of their main men given the talent he has and his brief EFL goalscoring record. When you look at it from all angles, it feels like a smooth fit.
