Barry Bannan has revealed how Josh Windass reacted to Sheffield Wednesday signing Davis Keillor-Dunn

Barry Bannan has revealed that Josh Windass gave him the seal of approval for Sheffield Wednesday’s signing of Davis Keillor-Dunn.

The Owls sealed a very late loan move for the forward in the closing stages of the transfer window, taking their overall tally to 18 new additions in David Storch's first summer as owner.

The 28-year-old has agreed a temporary move to Hillsborough until January, as he looks to get back to playing consistent minutes.

Keillor-Dunn signed for Wrexham during the January transfer window earlier this year from Barnsley, returning to the club for a second stint.

However, he struggled to make any kind of an impact in Phil Parkinson’s side, featuring just six times off the bench in the Championship as they pushed, but fell short of the play-off spots.

Keillor-Dunn and Sheffield Wednesday will both be hoping he can get back to his best in the next few months following his move at the end of the window.

Bannan is excited that Sheffield Wednesday have been able to complete a deal to bring Keillor-Dunn to the club, revealing that he discussed the move with former teammate Windass.

The midfielder claimed that the Wrexham forward gave his seal of approval to the signing, and that he’s optimistic about what the 28-year-old can do in Henrik Pedersen’s side.

“It’s a great signing,” said Bannan, via The Star.

“I spoke to Josh Windass about him and he spoke highly of him — if Josh is speaking highly of someone, they must be quite good!”

Windass joined Wrexham from Sheffield Wednesday last summer after he terminated his contract with the Owls due to their financial mismanagement.

However, the Yorkshire outfit are now under new ownership, with Arise Capital Parners taking over the club last May.

The group led by David Storch have overseen a hectic summer in which new sporting director Simon Wilson has rebuilt the first team squad.

Keillor-Dunn was the 18th and final addition of the window, and his arrival comes in the aftermath of Louie Barry suffering an injury that will keep him out for the next few months.

Keillor-Dunn initially signed for Wrexham in 2020 when they were competing in the National League, but he made just six league appearances for the club before signing for Oldham Athletic.

But the Red Dragons earned their way up to the Championship by the time he re-joined the team earlier this year.

However, he again played just six times in the league for the Welsh outfit in 2025/26, failing to score a single goal.

Yet due to the injuries to the likes of Harry Gray and Louie Barry, he went straight into Pedersen’s starting 11 following the completion of his move, featuring in a 2-1 win against Peterborough United last weekend.

The loss of Barry was a big blow for Sheffield Wednesday, as he had already shown a lot of promise from his first few appearances for the club.

But the arrival of Keillor-Dunn should give the side the threat in the final third to make up for Barry’s injury - and it's quite lucky that they were doing that deal before the ex-Aston Villa man suffered his setback that night at Wycombe.

Keillor-Dunn scored 13 times in 24 appearances in League One last season whilst at Barnsley, and if he can get back to that level of consistent finishing then he’ll do quite well for the Owls.

It’s no surprise that Bannan received the seal of approval from Windass, as he knows exactly what Keillor-Dunn can do at this level.
