The Owls boss was targeted by Southampton earlier in the season, but his compensation fee proved too much for the Saints.
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...
Sheffield Wednesday's season has been an excellent one on the pitch, but off-field issues have plagued the last week for the Owls once again, and owner Dejphon Chansiri has made all the headlines.
Danny Rohl's side were beaten 3-0 on Sunday by a rampant Leeds United side at Elland Road, leaving them 10th in the Championship table. However, the play-offs places are still within touching distance for the South Yorkshire outfit, with West Bromwich Albion just four points ahead in sixth.
Despite this, the relative success of the team has been marred by a fan forum that took place last week, in which Chansiri failed to clearly answer questions about the club's direction, while also taking aim at his manager.
Furthermore, it has been reported by Alan Nixon via Patreon that Rohl is not happy with the compensation figure that will have to be paid by a club if they attempt to take him out of the hands of Sheffield Wednesday.
Southampton had targeted the German manager in December following the sacking of Russell Martin, but the £5m compensation fee that would have had to be paid to the Owls stopped them from bringing him to St. Mary's.
But, as per Nixon, Rohl wants to see this figure lowered, with Chansiri remaining strong on the agreement that the two made when he signed his contract at Hillsborough last season.
Football League World has asked their Sheffield Wednesday Fan Pundit, Patrick McKenna, for his thoughts on this development, and if he believes the club's owner is correct to remain strong.
Patrick told FLW: "I think it is absolute nonsense. If you look at the fact that at the fan’s forum when Chansiri kept trying to put Rohl under the bus and it ended up being a complete lie about Rohl not giving him a list of players.
"A few days after the forum, Rohl, being a consummate professional, pointed out that he gave the list to our recruitment team, and he has said that he is willing to talk to Chansiri to get this sorted.
"Of course, this whole thing of Chansiri looking to blame Rohl backfired, so all of a sudden, this news story is coming out again trying to put the blame on Rohl and somehow turn the fans against him. I don't think that Rohl is unhappy, and he wasn't interested in taking the Southampton job at that particular time."
Patrick continued: "On the contract you can say they did agree on a compensation figure, but it is quite a hefty one and sometimes in negotiations you do have to agree a price, but then you have to say, what is the point of this big compensation figure if you are going to throw such a fantastic manager under the bus and renege on giving any investment?
"If we end the transfer window with no new players, you can keep the manager here with this figure, but if you're not going to back your manager or treat your manager in a professional way, it's kind of pointless.
"So, in the summer, I could see a club coming in and paying the fee. If that happens, Rohl possibly does go, and we're left with Chansiri’s mess yet again."
While the relationship between Chansiri and Rohl is fractured, the latter will continue to have the backing of supporters over the course of his tenure.
He has brought hope back to Sheffield Wednesday, with performances and results on the pitch the best they have been for a long time, and there is hope that the Owls can challenge for a top six finish this season - earlier than many would have predicted.
Chansiri must have more trust in his manager, as without it, there is no success at Hillsborough. However, supporters do not have trust in the owner, and protests look set to continue in the coming weeks.
Nevertheless, Sheffield Wednesday have already shown great improvement from last season, and with Rohl at the helm, they will only gain on those above in the months and potentially years to come.
