The two sides originally met earlier this month, but the game had to be abandoned after only 60 minutes due to an unplayable pitch, with Valerien Ismael’s side leading 1-0 at the time.

This was the second time this happened to the Lancashire outfit, after their clash against Ipswich Town was also abandoned in September.

The rearranged fixture won’t take place until 3 February, with the reverse meeting at Hillsborough actually set to be played first, with the clubs set to face each other again later this month.

Both sets of supporters have strongly expressed their opposition to their respective owners this year, with the two teams in danger of relegation to League One this campaign.

Sheffield Wednesday call for Blackburn Rovers solidarity

The Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust has called for fans to avoid making any purchases at the ground for their upcoming trip to Ewood Park in February.

This follows a statement from the Blackburn Rovers Supporters Coalition, which has urged fans of the Lancashire outfit to boycott home games amid growing frustration with the Venky’s ownership.

“Wednesdayites, please refrain from purchasing at the ground at the rearranged fixture,” said the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust, via X.

“Football has an ownership problem.

“Stand in solidarity with the supporters of Blackburn Rovers FC.”

Blackburn are currently 20th in the Championship table, and are at risk of joining Sheffield Wednesday in the relegation zone.

Ismael’s side have failed to win any of their last five league games, earning three points from a possible 15 in that time, leaving them just three clear of 22nd Oxford United.

Meanwhile, the Owls are bottom and with a tally of minus nine points after they received 18 points worth of deductions from the EFL.

Next up for Blackburn is a home clash against Millwall on 20 December in a 12.30pm kick-off.

Sheffield Wednesday supporters can empathise with Blackburn’s boycott desire

Sheffield Wednesday are currently in administration due to the financial mismanagement of the club by their former owner Dejphon Chansiri.

So fans know all about the plight of being stuck with an owner who is taking the team backwards, so it’s not surprising that this call for solidarity has been made.

The Owls may have a new owner by the time this rearranged fixture is played, but it’s difficult to foresee the Venky’s ownership status changing in that time.

They have been in control at Ewood Park since 2010, and supporters are clearly running out of patience for how they are running the club.
