Sheffield Wednesday turned down a bid of £1m from Blackburn Rovers

Sheffield Wednesday recently rejected a £1 million offers for Bailey Cadamarteri from Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield United.
The 20-year-old has emerged as one of the Owls’ key players during the early stages of the 2025/26 Championship campaign, starting the first three games and scoring against Wrexham.
According to journalist Alan Nixon via his Patreon, Rovers had a proposal for the forward turned down, which would’ve seen them pay £1 million for his services alongside loaning the prospect back to Wednesday for the rest of this season, and since then, it has emerged that bitter rivals Sheffield United have also had an offer rejected too.
The money from the sale would’ve allowed owner Dejphon Chansiri to guarantee payment of staff in the coming months, but the offer was swiftly turned down.
Football League World’s Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit, Patrick McKenna, stands by the Owls’ decision to reject Blackburn’s offer (prior to knowledge that Sheffield United also came in for the forward) - but fears that Chansiri could accept a marginally higher bid before the 7pm transfer deadline.
“The idea that Bailey Cadamarteri should be sold for £1 million is ridiculous,” McKenna told FLW.
“It's an insulting offer from Blackburn, but we have seen it this summer already with Djeidi Gassama that clubs are coming in to take advantage of our perilous situation.
“So, they are bidding low, but Cadamarteri is definitely worth more than that already at this stage of his career.
"I don't have any doubt that he is going to develop further as a player, and he's going to become a very capable Championship player.
“As well, our squad is getting thinner and thinner. We the season with a lack of senior players and already we have a few players injured, so we can't afford to lose any player at this stage, let alone for a cut-price.
“So I know they'd loan him back for the season, but he wouldn't be our player and I just don't want to see the amount of full-time senior players we have. We just can't sell our young players for too little.
“So he's a player that's going to be key for us this season and possibly going forward in future seasons. So do not sell him for £1 million. It would have been ridiculous to let him go for that amount.
“I do have the fear if they come back again, with say £1.5 million, that that could be accepted by Chansiri as he is looking to hold on to his ownership of the club.”
The summer of 2025 has been tough for Wednesday with financial woes constantly plaguing them. Staff have had late payments and players have been sold on the cheap just to keep the club operating.
However, they have made the right choice not to sell Cadamarteri to Blackburn - or Sheffield United for that matter.
At just 20 years of age, he has proven himself to be a capable starter at the Championship level and that therefore means he has a much higher valuation than £1 million.
In the future, the Owls may be able to cash in on the forward for a much larger fee and not selling now also means that they get to enjoy his services throughout the 2025/26 campaign as they aim to remain in the second-tier.
