Nathaniel Chalobah has completed a move to Charlton Athletic after his exit from Sheffield Wednesday
Sheffield Wednesday have failed in their attempts to keep Nathaniel Chalobah at the club.
Charlton Athletic have confirmed the signing of the 31-year-old as a free agent after his contract with the Owls expired earlier this summer.
The Yorkshire outfit are in the middle of rebuilding their first team squad following the takeover led by David Storch.
Arise Capital are the new owners of the League One side, and have overseen significant changes both on and off the pitch.
Henrik Pedersen remains in charge of the first team squad, but he now has several fresh faces to work with.
Sheffield Wednesday have signed a dozen players, including securing the return of Barry Bannan, but have missed out on their attempts to keep Chalobah at Hillsborough.

It was reported in July that Chalobah had spent time on trial with Charlton, but that the door was still ajar regarding a possible return to Sheffield Wednesday.
But now the Addicks have confirmed the permanent addition of the 31-year-old to Nathan Jones’ squad for the season ahead.
The midfielder initially joined Sheffield Wednesday in the 2024 summer transfer window after the expiration of his West Brom contract.
He made 29 league appearances for the club in two years, contributing two goals and one assist.
Chalobah struggled with injury issues during his time at Hillsborough, which led to him starting on just 11 occasions in the Championship after arriving from the Baggies.
Charlton will be hoping he can put together a more consistent period of availability, with the London outfit seeking an improvement on their 19th place finish last season.
The second tier side have revealed that Chalobah has agreed a one-year deal to keep him at the Valley until June 2027.
Sheffield Wednesday fans have wished Chalobah the best with the future of his career after completing his move to Charlton.
Supporters are generally quite positive about the 31-year-old, and are hoping he goes on to enjoy success elsewhere.
Fans have backed the idea of trying to bring him back to Hillsborough, so are disappointed to see him move on.
But ultimately, his fitness issues have seen some supporters wish him the best and won’t be too disappointed to see his decision to sign with the Addicks instead.

Chalobah will bring plenty of Championship experience and quality to Charlton, and will be a reasonably low cost signing due to his free agency.
He has the potential to be a very solid signing for the London outfit, but only if he can consistently remain fit for the duration of his one-year contract.
It is a blow for Pedersen’s side that they’ve been unable to tie him down to a new deal, as he could’ve had a major impact in League One.
However, the Owls now have other midfield options, so should be able to manage without him, particularly as he never put together a proper run of injury-free football over the last two years.
