Sheffield Wednesday have been relegated to England's third tier in February, confirmed after 33 Championship games with a tally of minus seven. L'Équipe reports the development.

Sunday's 2-1 loss to Sheffield United was an 11th straight defeat. With 13 matches left, survival is no longer possible.

The 158-year-old club are for sale and in administration. Their season was compromised before it began, the Football Association imposing an 18-point penalty for payment failures.

They trail West Brom, the first side outside the bottom three, by 41 points.

Their last league win came on 20 September at Portsmouth, 0-2. It is their only league victory, with a record of 33 played, one win, eight draws and 24 losses. They also knocked out Leeds United in the EFL Cup second round on penalties after a 1-1 draw, winning the shootout 3-0.
