FLW's Sheffield United fan pundit has given his verdict on former loanee Louie Barry's imminent move to Sheffield Wednesday.

After two years together in the Championship, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday will be back in different divisions next season.

Sheffield Wednesday were relegated from the Championship last season after a nightmare campaign that saw them spend over six months in administration, while Sheffield United finished in a disappointing 13th place after a turbulent season of their own.

While the Blades will be focusing on their own rebuild as they look to mount a promotion push next season, a few eyebrows may have been raised at Bramall Lane at one of the Owls' imminent transfer deals.

It has been reported that Aston Villa forward Louie Barry, who spent the first half of last season on loan at United, is close to joining Wednesday on a permanent basis, and while a fee and a payment plan are yet to be agreed between the two clubs, talks are said to be in the advanced stages.

Barry made just nine appearances for the Blades during what was an underwhelming loan spell, failing to register a single goal or assist in those matches, and his time at the club was cut short in January while he was sidelined with a knee injury.

After leaving United, Barry returned to Stockport County for a third temporary stint at Edgeley Park, scoring four goals in 10 appearances to help the Hatters reach the play-offs, and he looks set to ply his trade in League One again next season with the Owls.

When asked for his thoughts on Barry's expected move to Sheffield Wednesday, FLW's Sheffield United fan pundit Jimmy, from the YouTube channel Blades Ramble, claimed that he would be a strong addition for the Owls in League One, but he questioned whether he is capable of performing at a higher level than the third tier.

"I think what we saw when he was on loan at Sheffield United last season was that he is a League One player," Jimmy told FLW.

"He's good at that level, but he struggled in the Championship with the physicality of it.

"He might do well for them, I think he'd be a good signing for them because they are a League One team, so they need League One players.

"I think he would be the perfect fit for what they're after in their little rebuild, so good luck to him.

"Not good luck to them, but good luck to him."

Barry scored an impressive 19 goals in just 32 appearances in League One during his loan spells at Stockport, so there is no doubt that he will be a real asset for Sheffield Wednesday in the third tier next season.

However, as the Owls are signing Barry on a permanent basis, they will be hoping that he can also deliver in the Championship if they were to win promotion, but there are question marks over whether the 23-year-old can cut it at that level after failing to make an impact at Sheffield United last season.

In Barry's defence, he was plagued by injury during his time at Bramall Lane, and the manager who signed him for the Blades, Ruben Selles, was sacked early in the campaign, but he will have a lot to prove if he reaches the Championship with Wednesday over the coming years.
