Sheffield Wednesday are beginning to move in the right direction once again following the arrival of new owner David Storch.

The Owls endured a tough Championship campaign, earning just two league wins, having been plunged into administration by former owner Dejphon Chansiri.

Chansiri's reckless actions also handed the South Yorkshire outfit an 18-point deduction, which ensured that they were relegated following a defeat to fierce rivals Sheffield United in February.

Storch's arrival has already created a hugely positive atmosphere at Hillsborough Stadium, which was in full swing when Wednesday defeated West Bromwich Albion 2-1 in their final game of the season.

The Owls are now tasked with readying themselves for life in League One, while Storch's Arise consortium still have to put key board figures in place.

Wednesday are not being handed the 15-point deduction they once feared next season, meaning that they could challenge at the right end of the third-tier table.

Storch has plenty of work to do this summer, while Owls supporters can look forward to a more positive transfer window this time around, despite EFL budget restrictions following their time in administration.

Wednesday endured a particularly tough time in the transfer market last summer, as several key assets departed Hillsborough Stadium after Chansiri consistently failed to pay staff and player wages on time.

The winter window was not much easier for the South Yorkshire side, with club legend Barry Bannan joining Millwall, who he helped land a third-place finish in the Championship.

However, Owls supporters can now look forward to seeing Storch bolster their side's squad this summer, as the S6 outfit vie to return to the Championship at the first time of asking.

Taking to X on Sunday, Wednesday's new owner said: "Although still basking in the glow from our dream like Saturday, this past week was one of rolling up our sleeves and going to work in preparation for the summer and beyond.

"David B, Michael Storch and I met with the leadership team advancing our plans for the training pitch, summer training schedule for the squad, spent time assessing current squad, addressed multiple work plans for Hillsborough, starting with critical safety items work beginning this Monday and more.

"Our countdown 'til (the) start of cup series (the first round of the EFL Cup) is 91 calendar days. Lots to do in (a) short window, but the team led by David Bruce is committed to do so.

"We will keep you updated on our progress. Expect some exciting news next week. Wishing everyone all the best, David, Michael, Tom and David."

Chansiri's negligence means that Storch and Co have plenty of work to do to rebuild Wednesday both on and off the field.

Multiple departures in both the last two transfer windows left Henrik Pedersen with a lack of quality and depth, which was reflected by his side's consistently poor results.

Chansiri has left the Owls in a position where Storch's consortium must improve key assets such as Hillsborough Stadium and the Middlewood Road training ground.

Meanwhile, as reported by Alan Nixon via Patreon, Wednesday are looking to appoint a new transfer guru who knows League One well, as they vie for success in the third tier.

Nixon's report added that the Owls' new head scout and their incoming transfer expert will look to sign players on loan from the Championship as well as acquiring players with second-tier experience on free deals, while they may have scope to make deals involving smaller fees.
