According to the Daily Mail, the incident occurred at 2.48pm on Saturday, minutes before the game at Hillsborough got underway.

The Owls were hosting Alex Neil’s side, with the team looking to secure only their second win of the season under Henrik Pedersen. However, an own goal from Cole McGhee and a 74th minute strike from Macaulay Langstaff secured a 2-1 comeback victory for the Lions.

It was an important three points for the London outfit, who are chasing automatic promotion to the Premier League this campaign. However, pre-match news has put a new spin on the day.

It has been reported that a Sheffield Wednesday fan required stitches following an incident in which they were bitten by a Millwall supporter.

It is understood that the fan is now doing fine and is recovering from the incident, but that he required medical treatment.

Sheffield Wednesday are believed to be assisting the South Yorkshire police in their investigation, who arrested a 22-year-old man regarding the incident.

The investigators have released a statement confirming that the 22-year-old has been released on bail pending further questions.

“At 2.48pm on Saturday (14 February) we received a report of an altercation on the concourse outside Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield,” said a spokesperson for the South Yorkshire police, via the Daily Mail.

“It is reported a man assaulted another man and that the victim, a man in his 40s, sustained an injury to his ear.

“A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

“He has been bailed pending further enquiries.”

Sheffield Wednesday enduring a difficult time

It’s already been a very miserable season for Sheffield Wednesday, with the team winning one of their 32 games in the league.

Uncertainty surrounds the ownership, with the club awaiting ratification from the EFL for James Bord’s bid to buy the Owls.

The Owls are bottom of the Championship table, and are set to be relegated from the division.

Next up for Pedersen’s side is a trip to face bitter rivals Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on 22 February in a 12pm kick-off.

Meanwhile, Millwall are third, three points behind second-place Coventry City, with Neil’s side set to return to action on 21 February in a 3pm kick-off against Portsmouth.
