Sheffield Wednesday have made a fresh contract offer to Max Lowe, with the defender attracting interest from Leicester, Middlesbrough and Stoke.
After months of uncertainty, Sheffield Wednesday can finally look forward to the 2026/27 campaign under new ownership.
There were genuine fears for the future of the club under Dejphon Chansiri, but his time in charge has come to an end with a positive ending for the Owls, who also won’t start next season with a points deduction.
Wednesday were bought by Arise Capital Partners, led by David Storch, and he will be aware of just how big a task is facing the club as they prepare for life in League One.
Henrik Pedersen’s side were relegated with a squad that wasn’t fit for purpose by Championship standards, and he had to rely on many academy players. Whilst they will have benefited from the experience, it’s clear a major overhaul is required for the Owls to be competitive next season.

However, there are some players who Pedersen will want to keep, with Max Lowe falling into that category.
The 29-year-old has been a reliable performer for the Owls over the years, but with his contract expiring, Lowe is free to explore his options ahead of the new season.

But, it appears Wednesday are doing all they can to keep the left-back at Hillsborough, as journalist Joe Crann has revealed that they have ‘tabled a fresh offer’ to the ex-Derby man in a bid to convince him to stay.
Yet, the update adds that Lowe has plenty of other suitors, with Middlesbrough, Leicester City and Stoke City all believed to be keen on the player.
Therefore, it’s said that the chances of Lowe having already played his last game for the club appear to be ‘increasing’, in what would be a blow for the Owls.
In truth, it was always going to be difficult for Sheffield Wednesday to retain Lowe, because he is someone who has proven himself to be a reliable Championship player over the years.
That’s not to say he won’t stay, as Wednesday is a huge club, and the chance to be part of this exciting new project may appeal. But, the reality is that they may not be able to compete financially with some of the clubs mentioned.

Ultimately, Lowe is in a position where he can decide his future, so it makes sense that he will assess all the offers that come his way before making a call.
From Wednesday’s perspective, they will want a quick answer, and you would expect they already have a list of potential alternatives if Lowe decides to go elsewhere.
Pedersen and the recruitment team will be aware that a lot of deals need to be done, and, in an ideal world, they will get the bulk of that business done ahead of pre-season, which would give the boss time to implement his ideas on what will be a new-look squad.
So, a massive summer window awaits, and it will be interesting to see what the Wednesday XI looks like when the new season starts in August.
