The Owls have been in administration since October following significant financial mismanagement under Dejphon Chansiri.

The Thai businessman oversaw a massive decline, leading to an exodus of first team players, as well as coach Danny Rohl, last summer.

Henrik Pedersen’s side have struggled to compete in the Championship as a result, with 18 points worth of deduction penalties not helping their cause.

The Yorkshire outfit have already officially suffered relegation to League One for next season, and they will now want to start planning for life in the third tier under the new owners as quickly as possible.

However, Storch’s group, Arise Capital, are still seeking ratification from the EFL before their takeover can be completed.

David Storch’s vision is an exciting future for Sheffield Wednesday

When asked what kind of impression Storch has made so far, FLW’s Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit Patrick McKenna claimed that he has been impressed by the American’s messaging so far, claiming it’s been a vast improvement on both Chansiri and the previous preferred bidder James Bord.

He is hopeful that Arise Capital have the club’s best interests in mind with their plans, and that they won’t see fans as just consumers but as a group that can be involved in the improvement of the team.

“Everything he has said so far has been spot on, and it gives you a load of reassurance that we never had under the Chansiri years or the Bord consortium,” McKenna told Football League World.

“They seem very focused on getting the job done, and they seem to have a real awareness of what the job will entail.

“They know it’s a huge project that will require a lot of time and money, and they seem invested in it, and they are looking to succeed.

“So, I know we’ve been used to some poor communication from our previous owner that any improvement from it is welcome, but you really can’t knock their approach so far.

“They’ve been keen to get their message across.

“It does seem that they generally want the fans to be part of the future, they see themselves as custodians and they don’t see the fanbase as customers.”

McKenna has claimed that the best message Storch has made is that his actions will speak louder than his words, and he is optimistic about the future of Sheffield Wednesday under his ownership.

“So, the best message that David Storch gave was that he’s about actions and not words, so although he is clear and he’s outlined his vision, he has basically stating that actions need to be taken and that’s how they will be judged,” he continued.

“But from what I have seen from them so far, I am hopeful that they will deliver a bright future for Sheffield Wednesday.”

A consortium led by Bord was initially named as the preferred bidder to take over Sheffield Wednesday in December, but their bid collapsed in February.

This led to Storch becoming the front-runner despite interest from Mike Ashley, but the deal is still awaiting ratification.

Arise Capital will be planning for life in League One once they are finally, officially the new owners of the club.

Pedersen’s side have won just one of their 39 league games this season, highlighting the amount of work needed to improve the squad.

Sheffield Wednesday are also facing the likelihood of a 15 point deduction penalty for next season, which will further hurt the team’s ability to compete in the third tier.

Next up for the Owls is a trip to face Stoke City on 3 April in a 3pm kick-off.

David Storch has his work cut out for him at Sheffield Wednesday

Derby County were in administration four years ago and are now competing for a play-off place in the Championship.

So there is living proof that administration isn’t a death knell for a club’s ability to compete, but it will take a lot of work to replicate anything close to that level in such a quick time.

Storch will need to invest in both the first team squad and the Owls’ infrastructure, which will be an expensive endeavour.

Turning things around at Sheffield Wednesday will not be done overnight, but if the new owners are willing to put in the money and effort then Sheffield Wednesday can make it back to a competitive level again in the near future.
