FLW's Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit has given his verdict on speculation linking the club with an ambitious move for Jamie Vardy.
Sheffield Wednesday are preparing for life back in League One after David Storch completed his takeover of the club.
It was a nightmare season for Wednesday as they were relegated from the Championship after winning just two games all season and having a total of 18 points deducted, while they also spent over six months in administration following former owner Dejphon Chansiri's exit in October.
However, a new era is now underway at Hillsborough after Storch's Arise Capital Partners consortium finalised their takeover earlier this month, and the American businessman has revealed that strengthening the squad is currently the top priority of the new ownership.
Amid speculation about a potential return for former captain Barry Bannan, the Owls have reportedly discussed the possibility of making an ambitious move for another of their ex-players, striker Jamie Vardy, who began his career at the club before being released at the age of 16 without making a senior appearance.
After leaving Wednesday, Vardy went on to enjoy an illustrious 13-year spell at Leicester City, during which he scored 200 goals in 500 appearances and helped the Foxes to the Premier League title and FA Cup among a host of other individual achievements.
Vardy departed the King Power Stadium last summer following Leicester's relegation from the Premier League and made the move to Serie A side Cremonese, where he has scored seven goals and provided two assists in 28 appearances so far this season.
The 39-year-old signed a one-year contract with the Italian outfit, with the option to extend by a further year if the club avoid relegation, but with Marco Giampaolo's men sitting one point from safety with just one game to play, his future at the Stadio Giovanni Zini is looking uncertain.

When asked for his thoughts on a possible move for Vardy, FLW's Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit Patrick McKenna urged Storch against bringing the striker back to Hillsborough, claiming that his arrival could be a distraction from the club's rebuild and would take up too much of the wage budget.
"Although there is a lot of romance to it, and it has always been a narrative, I don't think it really fits into the huge rebuild of the club," Patrick told FLW.
"It's probably not the right time.
"I think if Wednesday were a stable Championship club, then the Vardy story would have fit into that.
"But I just think we've got far too much to be concentrating on, and, cost wise, I don't think the Vardy return happens on League One wages.
"I don't think he would necessarily be up for taking a League One wage.
"With what he has achieved in his career, I don't think he should have to do that.
"I just don't think now is the time for it.
"I think that, if he does come back to English football, it's more likely that he would be going to Leicester than Sheffield Wednesday."

Given the success he has experienced since being released by the club as a teenager, many Wednesday fans have long called for Vardy to make an emotional return to Hillsborough to end his career.
Having scored seven goals in the Italian top flight this season, it is clear that Vardy still possesses plenty of quality at the age of 39, and he could be a real asset for the Owls in League One next season.
However, according to Capology, Vardy is currently estimated to earn £30,861-a-week at Cremonese, so it may be tough for Wednesday to afford his salary, even if he was willing to take a wage cut, and, in any case, if he was to drop down to the third tier, it would likely be with Leicester instead.
