Shelbourne FC are pleased to confirm the signing of goalkeeper Conor Walsh, who joins from Sligo Rovers for an undisclosed fee.
The 20-year-old arrives at Tolka Park after developing through the academy at the Bit O’Red, bringing further competition and depth to the goalkeeping department, led by Paul Skinner.
A native of Westport, Co Mayo, Walsh came through the ranks at Sligo Rovers after joining from Westport United.
He progressed through the club’s underage sides before gaining senior experience, including first team appearances and loan spells that saw him play regular football at senior level at Wexford FC and Finn Harps.
The Mayo man made his first team League of Ireland debut on the final day of the 2022 season against Bohemians at Dalymount Park and appeared five times the following year, before his moves to Wexford and Donegal the following year.
2024 was a big year for the former Rice College and Summerhill student who spent time on loan at both Finn Harps and Wexford.
Walsh has also represented the Republic of Ireland at underage international level. Speaking after completing his move to Shelbourne, Walsh said: “I’m absolutely delighted to sign for this massive club. I’m really looking forward to representing this club on and off the pitch. I can’t wait to get started and I’m looking forward to seeing you all at Tolka Park.”
Joey O’Brien, Shelbourne FC, Head Coach said: “Delighted to get Conor in the building, he’s a young hungry goalkeeper with first team experience, who we feel over time will develop into a top goal keeper. He’ll be working closely with the best goalkeeper coach in the country in Paul Skinner alongside our other goalkeepers, we feel Conor can flourish at our football club.”
Luke Byrne, Shelbourne FC, Technical Director said: “Conor is an ambitious, determined young man and a very talented goalkeeper. We’ve been monitoring him for a long time and see him as a really good addition to our goalkeeping department. Working closely with Paul and our other goalkeepers over the coming years will see Conor reach his potential which is a very exciting prospect for us.”
