Manchester City winger Hayley Raso says that Real Madrid midfielder Caroline Weir is one of the best players that she’s played with.

The pair could be set for a reunion when Raso’s Australia take on Weir’s Scotland in an international friendly at AFC Wimbledon’s Cherry Red Records Stadium this afternoon.

Raso and Weir spent one season together at Manchester City before the latter opted to make the move to Spain. Reflecting on their time together, Raso said that Weir is one of the best players that she has played with in her career to date.

“It’ll be really nice to see a familiar face in their side,” Raso said when discussing Australia’s international friendly against Scotland with FAWSL Full-Time. “I was actually speaking about her to some of the girls and I was saying that she’s one of the best players that I’ve ever trained with. She’s an amazing footballer, technically she’s so good.

“It’ll be really good to have this tough game, to get to play against her and see her again.”

Weir is enjoying an excellent season for Real Madrid, she has already netted 21 goals for The Whites in all competitions. Raso said that she is well-aware of the huge impact that the midfielder is making in Spain.

She said “I’ve seen that she is doing really well there. I’ve seen a few videos and articles about her and she seems to be really loving her time in Madrid. I think that she has scored a number of goals for Real Madrid already, so you can see how big a player she is for them. I’m sure it’ll be the same when we come up against Scotland.”

Australia’s international friendly against Scotland kicks-off at 1.15pm.
