Throughout the summer, it has been clear the 18-year-old striker was on the brink of being rewarded for his fine form for the club’s youth teams.

Standard Sport understands discussions have now reached a point of agreement over terms and he is set to extend his stay by signing a new deal.

It is still possible that the teenager spends the duration of the 2026-27 season on loan, likely in the EFL.

Mheuka led the Blues’ academy side to the league title, scoring 18 goals in just 19 appearances last season, and was named Premier League 2 player of the year.

After picking up the award, the teenager had said: “It has been a great season for me and I’m very proud to receive this award.

“I’ve worked hard throughout the year and I’m grateful to my family, the staff and my team-mates for all of their support.”

Mheuka has made nine appearances for Chelsea’s first team since making his debut in a UEFA Conference League match against Astana in December 2024.

He did not participate in the club’s pre-season tour of south-east Asia and Oceania, though his academy team-mates Ryan Kavuma-McQueen, Reggie Walsh, Reggie Watson and Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli all made the trip down under. So too did Calvin Diakite and Landon Emenalo.

Chelsea are expected to sanction a number of outgoing transfers before the transfer deadline on September 2.

Walsh and Kavuma-McQueen, both 17, have already impressed in the early days of their respective loans at Wigan Athletic and Portsmouth, with the latter scoring on debut last weekend.
