Jack Wilshere has tried to loan in Max Dowman on a couple of occasions since he became Luton Town boss

Luton Town boss Jack Wilshere has previously requested to take Arsenal's most promising young talent, Max Dowman, on loan.

The 2009-born starlet once again caught attention during the Gunners' EFL Cup third-round win at Ipswich Town on Tuesday, netting a well-taken brace in their 4-2 win at Portman Road, in turn booking them a place in the fourth round against League Two side Fleetwood Town.

Those were Dowman's second and third senior goals for the reigning Premier League champions already, after he became the youngest ever goalscorer in the top-flight when scoring back in March against Everton.

The 16-year-old already has starts in the Premier League and in cup competitions for Mikel Arteta's side, but a former Arsenal midfielder has been gunning to bring him down to League One to oversee his development with Luton.

According to Luton's head scout and club ambassador, Mick Hartford, who was speaking to talkSPORT, the Hatters have shown interest in bringing Dowman to Kenilworth Road on loan.

It's not out of the question for younger managers to use their connections from their time as a player to benefit their new role, and Wilshere using his time at Arsenal to loan the talented 16-year-old would more than definitely bolster their promotion chances to the third tier.

Wilshere was Dowman's head coach in the Arsenal under-18s side, scoring twice and providing seven assists in 12 games under the 34-year-old.

However, despite wanting to bring the 16-year-old in to play regular senior minutes, Luton's attempts to bring him have been batted back by the Premier League champions.

"I think Jack's asked him a couple of times, Mikel, but I don't think he'll be going out on loan," Hartford said when asked about Dowman.

Evidently, despite still being three months away from his 17th birthday, there's room for him in the Arsenal setup, just like there was for Wilshere when he was breaking into the Gunners fold as a teenager under Arsène Wenger.

"Dowman looks more of a wide man than a pocket player [like Wilshere], but a wonderful talent," Hartford continued. "I think he will get more game time, and I think if he produces, I think Arteta will play him.

"I'm a believer in: if you're ready, I don't care what age you are. If you're good enough, you'll play, and I'm sure he will. He looks like he's going to be a superstar."

Dowman's double against Ipswich took place in his first senior game of the new season. He's made squads in the Community Shield, Premier League and UEFA Champions League this year, but is yet to be given the nod off the bench.

However, at 16, there isn't an immediate demand for him to play regular football amongst Arsenal fans, and those online are happy with him being involved in the senior squad in a sporadic sense for the immediate future.

"Asking twice and still getting a no tells you exactly how highly Arsenal rate the kid. Old teammate credit doesn't get you a loan these days," one football fan said on X in response to the talkSPORT piece.

"Whilst I’m always happy to see Arsenal youngsters get some game time with loans, Max really doesn’t need it. He’s already proven enough to play at Prem level, so a move to League One would be silly. He’d learn nothing. Plus, you know there’d be some jealous 34-year-old CB that never made it to Prem level ready to snap his knees in half out of spite," one Arsenal fan added.

Some Luton fans, though, have started to dream after the article came out, one even asking if they could possibly pull it off.

"Really surprised to hear we’ve spoken to Arsenal about Max Dowman. I struggle to see him playing League One football, but if we somehow pulled that off… wow. Right wing definitely feels up for grabs in this team too. Could we actually pull this off? 👀," one fan tweeted in response to the article.

"If we were in the championship, I could have seen it possibly happening, but not League One," one Luton fan also responded.

"If we get promoted, I can see a TINY chance that we might get him on loan next season just to get a full season of first team starts under his belt. Most likely it will never happen, but we can dream...," was also among the comments.

It's not that far-fetched to state that, if Luton were somehow able to secure Dowman's short-term services, the 16-year-old would be one of the best players in the division, as ridiculous as that may sound.

The talented wideman has already shown capabilities of playing in one of the best squads in the world currently, and there are few arguments against him likely being Premier League quality already.

Perhaps if he didn't have the likes of Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke to contend with, and he was playing for a lower-end top-flight side, he'd be given regular minutes with them.

So the prospect of him being in League One would be quite mind-blowing. Exciting for the neutral to see what he could do, but perhaps less so for the other 23 defences in the third tier.
