Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has come under consideration for Chelsea as the Toffees have long standing interest in Armando Broja but need to raise funds according to The Athletic.

It’s set be a busy end to the window for the Blues and whilst they would like to bring a new striker in the main focus will be on outgoings.

Chelsea have a number of players they need to move on before Friday’s deadline including Broja, Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell and Trevoh Chalobah.

Calvert-Lewin under consideration

The Blues tried to sell Broja in January and the Albanian knows he’s not part of Enzo Maresca’s plans but moving him on has proved more difficult than Chelsea might have initially thought.

A loan had been agreed with Ipswich which would become permanent for £30m if the Tractor Boys stayed in the Premier League, but that deal is in danger of falling through.

The Athletic have reported that Broja suffered a foot injury in training which has caused issues with the deal, although Ipswich remain in talks they are also exploring other options.

Calvert-Lewin has one year remaining on his Everton contract.

The report adds that Everton have a long standing interest in Broja but need to raise money to finance a deal which is why Calvert-Lewin has come under consideration at Chelsea.

How Calvert-Lewin helps or improves Chelsea isn’t obvious and fans would very underwhelmed were he to end up as the striker signing, but if the Blues want to move Broja on they may have to get creative in the market and explore different options.

Calvert-Lewin, who was linked with a move to Newcastle earlier this summer has one year remaining on his contract so wouldn’t command a high transfer fee, scored seven goals in 32 Premier League appearances last season.

Chelsea also remain in talks for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen but are yet to make a breakthrough with that deal set to go right to the end of the window.
