Saints have endured an intriguing summer of transfer activity in the wake of the Spygate scandal which denied the Championship club a shot at an immediate return to the Premier League under Tonda Eckert, who could still receive a ban from the FA.

Plenty of changes to the squad at St Mary's have been made in recent weeks, although this late saga involving the 23-year-old has unsurprisingly generated plenty of headlines in the window's final hours.

Indeed, it was first reported by Mike McGrath of the Telegraph on Monday night that two bids had been lodged for the services of Edozie from RB Salzburg and Italian Serie A side, Lecce.

However, both offers had swiftly been rejected by Southampton, and they were reported to have been in the region of £4m and both included sell-on clauses, although the weight of those were not disclosed.

Edozie has played 84 times for Saints since signing from Manchester City in 2023, scoring six times and posting seven assists, whilst also spending the second half of the club's 2024/25 Premier League campaign on loan with RSC Anderlecht of the Belgian Pro League.

Earlier this summer, it was reported that clubs in the Championship and across Europe were monitoring the wide player's services.

Despite this, Edozie came on as a substitute against Watford and Stoke City in the first two matches of the season, before being unused in the 5-1 rout over Millwall on Saturday afternoon.

However, in a fresh twist to this transfer saga, the England youth international, who played just 18 times in all competitions last season, has hit out at his current employers on Instagram, revealing he has submitted a transfer request with the desire to seek regular first-team minutes.

Edozie has also claimed that there have been multiple offers for his services in the past three windows, but Saints' desire for a hefty 50% sell-on clause on any future fee has caused stumbling blocks.

Sam Edozie and Southampton must resolve transfer saga ASAP

It may not come as the greatest of surprises that Edozie has grown frustrated with the lack of opportunities which have come his way at St Mary's in recent times, meaning Saints will hope to resolve this transfer saga as soon as possible.

However, the winger issuing his own stance on the matter on social media with little time left in the window could make for an intriguing dynamic if an exit cannot be sanctioned between now and the 11PM deadline.

Meanwhile, Saints already have the options of Lewis Dobbin and Leo Scienza, who Edozie is competing with, which already makes his chances of gametime extremely difficult due to their proven record in the division in the past year.
