Roy Keane didn’t mince his words after watching Manchester United produce a miserable first-half display against Leicester City.

The Red Devils are hosting the Foxes at Old Trafford in the opening fixture of the FA Cup fourth round. The backstory between Ruben Amorim and his counterpart Ruud van Nistelrooy dominated the headlines in the leadup to the encounter, but it is the Dutchman who’s ahead at halftime.

Leicester took the lead just before the interval through Bobby De Cordova-Reid who beat Andre Onana from close range following a mistake from Manuel Ugarte who allowed himself to be dispossessed after hugging the ball for too long.

But even before conceding the goal, United had failed to create anything noteworthy. Hence, Keane surely wasn’t impressed with his former club, as tried his best to express just how poor the Amorim’s men were in the first 45 minutes.

“It’s shocking. Really, really poor. No shot on target. They had two on target against Crystal Palace. They’re actually boring now.” said the legendary United captain during his appearance on ITV (via Sky Sports).

“You feel like going into the dressing room and reminding the players what the game’s about – there’s a goal at that end, you have to try and put the ball in the net. It’s as if they’re not aware of it.”

“It’s nowhere near good enough. There’s no energy. There’s no energy in the stadium. Someone is waiting for something to happen instead of players making something to happen. Leicester deserve the lead.”

For his part, Man United insider Samuel Luckhurst had flashbacks to the Louis van Gaal era at the club (2014-2016) while watching the Reds’ uninspiring display.

“Loud boos at half-time. That half reminds me of United under Van Gaal: stultifying, slow and no chances created. Man United coming full circle again,” posted the journalist on X.
