Former Manchester United academy star Shola Shoretire has taken another step in his playing journey.

Time at United

The 21-year-old joined the United academy in 2013 after a brief spell at Manchester City’s youth ranks.

In December 2018, he became the youngest ever player to appear in the UEFA Youth League at the age of 14 years and 314 days.

Shoretire’s strong reputation in the academy was demonstrated by him winning the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year for 2020–21.

He also became the youngest player to represent the senior team in Europe when he made a substitute appearance against Real Sociedad in 2021.

All in all, he made five senior appearances for the club before he departed Old Trafford.

Life after United

He joined Greek side PAOK Salonika on a free transfer after leaving United at the end of his contract. Last season he scored four goals in 25 first team appearances.

Loan move

It was announced by PEC Zwolle’s official website that, “just before the transfer deadline, PEC Zwolle has strengthened its squad with Shola Shoretire. The 21-year-old British striker, who can play in multiple forward positions, is on loan from PAOK Saloniki.”

The club’s technical director Gerry Hamstra stated, “Shola is a creative and technically gifted striker who has completed the entire Manchester United academy. In the final weeks of the transfer window, we’ve been actively looking for a creative attacker who can also play in multiple positions up front.”

He added, “Shola arrived late on the market, and we’re therefore pleased to have been able to sign him.”

Zwolle are currently seventh in the Eredivisie with two wins from three games and regular football in the Dutch league will be a stiff test for the former United man.

Shoretire could be in line to make his debut in the toughest of circumstances with an away trip to Ajax on Saturday 13th September.
