This likely move comes after Shomurodov helped Uzbekistan qualify for the 2026 World Cup, their first ever participation in the tournament.

He just turned 30 last week and had also been linked with Cremonese and Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes.

Roma purchased Shomurodov from Genoa in 2021 for €19.6m plus a 10 per cent cut of the future transfer fee.

He also had loan spells at Spezia and Cagliari, but last season made himself very useful with seven goals and five assists in 37 competitive appearances for Roma.

Negotiations have been going on for several weeks with La Gazzetta dello Sport suggesting the price tag was at least €8m.
