Here is the post-match reaction following RBL's unlucky 2-1 defeat against Atalanta.

Match report

Ole Werner:

“When you’re 1-0 up with ten minutes to go, of course you want to see the game out. But we shouldn’t read too much into last week’s result or this week’s either. What matters is taking away key insights and preparing the team for the season, both in terms of our playing style and fitness levels. In that sense, it was a step forward.

We did a lot of things well against a top opponent. For this stage of pre-season, that was a solid performance. If you look at the full 90 minutes, we probably had the better chances against the team that finished third in Serie A.”

Johan Bakayoko:

“The first half was very good, the second was more difficult after all the changes. We played with high intensity. You can see we’re a good team, and in two weeks we’ll be ready. The most important thing right now is building fitness and getting used to the system the coach wants to introduce.

There are a lot of young players here at RBL, and quite a few French speakers too, so it’s been easy for me to settle in. My family were here today – that meant a lot to me."

Marcel Schäfer:

“We saw where we want to be and we also saw areas where there’s still room for improvement. That’s to be expected in the third friendly of pre-season, especially with so many new players still getting used to each other. But I’m not unhappy with the performance.

What we did see is that we need to stay switched on at every stage of the game. That’s something we still have to learn. We’re only halfway through pre-season. It’s important that we keep developing our game and build rhythm, but also continue to push ourselves physically. I’m confident we’ll be sending out a team that’s in top shape.”
