Sidney van Hooijdonk joins Estrela da Amadora, set to face Benfica | OneFootball

Sidney van Hooijdonk has joined Estrela da Amadora from NAC Breda on a contract until summer 2028. The 25-year-old leaves the Dutch league in the winter window.

According to Glorioso 1904, the club announced the forward’s arrival on Thursday, 29 January, for João Nuno’s side, and said he will fill the spot vacated by Kikas.

Estrela did not disclose financial details. Van Hooijdonk arrives from NAC Breda, an Eredivisie club.

The move brings the van Hooijdonk name back to Portugal almost 25 years after Pierre’s Benfica stint in 2000/01, when he made 35 appearances, scored 25 goals and supplied three assists. Pierre van Hooijdonk is now 55.

This season for NAC Breda, van Hooijdonk has played 19 official matches, 18 in the Eredivisie and one in the KNVB Beker. Across 1,290 minutes he has scored five goals and provided one assist, and he is valued at €1.3 million.

He becomes the second member of the van Hooijdonk family to play in Portugal, and will now be a domestic rival of Benfica.
