Signing a key defender to a new deal seems to be a priority for Manchester City

In terms of players who are key players for the now and for the future at Manchester City, Josko Gvardiol would be near the top of that particular list. The Croatian defender is firmly established as a cornerstone of Manchester City’s defence. His partnership with Ruben Dias at centre-back has formed a key component of City’s defensive structure. Looking ahead there is no reason to believe that Josko Gvardiol cannot become the key player in Manchester City’s defence. Given the fact that Gvardiol is only 23 years of age, he is yet to enter his prime as a player. When he does there is no reason to believe that he cannot become the leader of Manchester City’s defence.
A new report indicates that Manchester City are eager to sign Josko Gvardiol to a contract extension. It is clear that City see Gvardiol as a key component of the here and now and for the future.
Steve Pearson has reported for TeamTalk that Pep Guardiola is pushing Manchester City to secure the future of Josko Gvardiol by getting the Croatian international to commit his future to the club with a contract extension. Furthermore, Pearson reports that Pep Guardiola is a huge admirer of Josko Gvardiol as a player and is eager to help him fulfil his obvious potential. Lastly, Pearson reports that Josko Gvardiol is contracted with City until 2028 and City are eager to have him sign a contract extension by the summer.

It is easy to see why Manchester City would want Josko Gvardiol to commit his future to the club. The Croatian international is firmly established as a key player at the club. His versatility to play at left and centre-back makes him a prized asset. As does his defensive acumen and his ability in possession. Despite a slow start to this season caused by injury, it is apparent that Gvardiol is building into this season.
Josko Gvardiol was superb in Manchester City’s 3-nil win over West Ham on Saturday. He quickly snuffed out any danger with his defensive work. Gvardiol was also exceptional on the ball. Especially in the first half. Gvardiol’s performance against the Hammers was one of his better performances this season. He has gradually gotten better with every start this season and the Croatian international looks poised for a big second half of the season based on his recent displays.
It is easy to see why Manchester City would want Josko Gvardiol to commit his future to the club. He is a key part of the here and now for City, and looks to be a future leader of Manchester City’s defence. There is no reason to believe that Gvardiol won’t extend his contract with Manchester City. It may simply be a matter of time before he does.
