Leeds United Women recorded a 5-2 win away at York City this afternoon, with Ellie White’s hattrick and goals from Monique Watson and Kath Smith proving the difference in the final FA WNL Cup group stage clash.

The Whites went 3-0 up in the first half thanks to a goal from Watson, and White’s brace, but the hosts clawed two back before the break, prior to White and Smith adding to the tally in the second half.

Speaking after the game, Leeds' boss Simon Wood said: “It was a really, really good performance.

“At half time, we said 'what did we do in the first bit of the game that allowed us to be dominant, and how can we repeat that and not make the same mistakes that let York back in,' and I think the second half performance showed that.

“Really important,” he added on continuing the momentum. “Last week we scored a lot of goals and we had a really good performance but today was going to throw different challenges, so we needed to do the things that we did well last week.”

On Ellie White's impact: “I think last week was the best game she’s had for us, so it was nice for her today to go on and score some goals.

“She’s a really clever player and when she’s in a flow like she was today, she creates chances for herself at times, but she links up really well.

“We want to go up there, we want to make sure we put in a good performance,” Simon said on next week’s clash against Norton and Stockton Ancients.

“Having a strong opposition to go and play games probably helps us more in the league because we go out there and it’s a competitive 90 minutes, so we want to go out there, we want to get through to the next round, but we want to make sure that we are doing the right things.

“York brought challenges, Norton bring challenges, so its how we find solutions to those problems.”
