Sir Alex Ferguson has praised Manchester United’s decision to sign Senne Lammens and believes the goalkeeper has been ‘outstanding’ since joining the club.
The Red Devils initially pursued a deal for Emiliano Martinez but couldn’t reach an agreement with Aston Villa.
That has proved to be an excellent decision so far, as the Belgian has hit the ground running at Old Trafford.
The 23-year-old has established himself as Ruben Amorim’s number one goalkeeper, starting their previous five Premier League matches.
The legendary United boss Ferguson has been impressed with Lammens, saying he has been ‘outstanding’ and looks ‘really good’.
Ferguson told Raceday RTV: “Well, they are, the signs… the manager has had some good signs.
“Particularly the goalkeeper has been outstanding, he’s only played three or four games and he’s looking really good.
“Of course, Mbeumo and Cunha, the new players from Wolves and Brentford, they’ve added to it. I hope the manager gets a bit of success because at United you need to have success. The signs are getting better.
“I think back-to-back wins is something teams like United should always expect. But having gone through a cycle where the improvement has to come by waiting and being patient, they are enjoying it now.”
The goalkeeping department remained an issue for United following David De Gea’s departure in 2023.
Andre Onana was not reliable in goal and committed several high-profile mistakes during his time at Old Trafford.
Amorim gave Altay Bayindir a chance to stake his claim for the number one spot, but he failed to grasp the opportunity, conceding 11 goals in six games.
But Lammens has brought a calmness to the team since making his debut against Sunderland in October.
The Belgian has played a key role in United’s recent success, keeping a clean sheet in his five top-flight appearances.
Amorim’s side sit seventh in the league table following the 2-2 draw at Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
They will face Everton at home on Monday on their return from international break.
