Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe discussed a potential marketing partnership with Destination Tanzania during the club’s FA Cup fifth-round tie on Sunday, as per Daily Mail.
The Red Devils bowed out of the FA Cup on penalties to Fulham over the weekend. They failed to capitalise on big scoring chances and paid the price with an elimination.
United are now entirely reliant on the Europa League to secure silverware this term. Winning the competition would guarantee Champions League football and a bigger summer budget.
Ratcliffe is also working behind the scenes to improve the club’s revenue, and he was in Monaco on Sunday. He met a Tanzanian delegation led by Dr Hassan Abbasi.
A potential ‘marketing partnership’ with Destination Tanzania was discussed with the delegation during the meeting.
Arsenal have had ‘Visit Rwanda’ as their shirt sleeve sponsor since 2021/22. It is reportedly worth £10 million per year and will continue running until June 2026.
The Red Devils have a much higher sleeve sponsor in DXC Technology at £20m, but the club may be contemplating a change ahead of the summer.
Tourism remains the primary source of revenue for most African nations. Tanzania could be looking to strike a historic partnership with United, but it won’t come on the cheap.
United will want a higher package than DXC for sleeve sponsorship rights. Ratcliffe could also find a different solution with ‘Destination Tanzania’ to ease the financial burden.
There have been almost 200 job redundancies under Ratcliffe, who believes the club could go bust otherwise. A new marketing partnership would stem their losses.
