Six €100m-plus deals as summer window ends, Premier League demand fuels speculative market | OneFootball

Europe’s big five leagues closed the summer window on Tuesday, with mega fees surging again and Ligue 1 sides leaning on sales to shore up finances.

According to Le Progres, six of Europe’s top 10 sales cleared €100m, including Bradley Barcola’s €125m move from Paris Saint-Germain to Liverpool before bonuses, a first in the sport.

Prices have climbed across the board, with squad players fetching bigger sums amid Premier League demand. Tottenham signed Savinho for €87.7m and Nottingham Forest bought Liam Delap for €52.5m despite limited starts last season.

Speculation around resale potential is growing, with early senior minutes inflating values faster than before. Dayann Méthalie left Toulouse for Sunderland at €28m and Aladji Bamba moved from Newcastle to Monaco for €35.5m.

English clubs keep spending while much of Europe cashes in, France included. Eight of Ligue 1’s 18 clubs posted record sales this summer, from PSG and OM to Toulouse and Troyes. Sales neared €1.2bn against outlay of about €600m, so most clubs booked profits.

With domestic TV income at roughly €185m for 2026/27, more than three times lower than a decade ago, sell-on clauses and bonuses are rising. Olympique Lyonnais omitted a sell-on in Barcola’s 2022 switch to PSG, so received only 3.5% via solidarity on Liverpool’s fee, around €5m.
