With the 2025/26 Premier League run-in under way, Sunderland are already eyeing the summer window. They are chasing an unlikely European berth, yet plan to strengthen regardless to build on their top-flight return.
According to Sunderland Echo, Google's Gemini has flagged six options from Europe's top leagues who could suit Regis Le Bris' side.
Left-back Bradley Locko of Stade Brestois could future-proof a position, with Reinildo Mandava turning 32 and Arthur Masuaku barely featuring before a loan. A strong ball progressor and reliable one-on-one defender, he would boost transitions while retaining resale value.
Genoa's Morten Frendrup looks a succession option to 33-year-old Granit Xhaka. Excellent for tackles and recoveries and relentless in the press, he could shield Noah Sadiki and offers prime-age experience at 25.
Valencia striker Hugo Duro profiles as a tireless forward to complement Brian Brobbey. His pressing, turnovers and selfless runs could free Chemsdine Talbi and Enzo Le Fée, aligning with Le Bris' intensity.
On the right, VfL Wolfsburg winger Patrick Wimmer brings industry and chance creation, easing the load on Chris Rigg and supplying Brobbey. If Wolfsburg go down, terms might be favourable.
Villarreal centre-back Logan Costa could add competition for Dan Ballard and Omar Alderete, mixing physicality with calm distribution and aerial strength, and offering scope for a back-three. AZ Alkmaar playmaker Sven Mijnans would reduce reliance on Enzo Le Fée, bringing vision, late box entries and the flexibility to operate as a number ten or alongside him.
