Six new Kaizer Chiefs players out with injury!
A significant injury crisis has hit Kaizer Chiefs just as they prepare to face Siwelele, with a staggering ten players ruled out of the crucial fixture. In a further blow, more than half of these absentees—six to be precise—are new signings who have yet to fully integrate into the squad.
The treatment room at Naturena is currently occupied by a lengthy list of talents: George Matlou, Thabiso Monyane, Ethan Chislett, Paeka Mako, Karabo Molefe, Given Msimango, Rushwin Dortley, Lebogang Maboe, Etiosa Ighodaro, and Nkhanyisa Shinga.
However, amidst this challenging situation, a glimmer of hope emerges from the club's medical team. In an official statement, the club offered a positive update, noting, "Despite these setbacks, there’s a silver lining. The squad is seeing a wave of recoveries that could bolster the team in the coming games. Lebohang Maboe, Etiosa Ighodaro, and Nkanyiso Shinga are edging closer to full match fitness, offering the coaching staff a welcome selection dilemma."
The injury woes are particularly poignant for four players—Maboe, Shinga, Ighodaro, and Chislett—who are still waiting to make their official debut for Amakhosi after joining in the recent transfer window.
The situation is also a frustrating case of déjà vu for the former Orlando Pirates duo, Paeka Mako and Thabiso Monyane. While they had managed to feature in several matches for Chiefs, their time on the pitch has been cut short once again, echoing the persistent fitness issues that plagued their final season at Mayfair.
